I'm installing AutoCAD LT 2017 onto a Windows 2008 R2 server for a customer. This is a fresh install, not a migration, no users on the system. The server is in a lab and does not have an Internet connection. The activation and codes worked flawlessly. I (actually our purchasing office) sent the serial # and product key off to Autodesk and received the 56 character activation code back, and AutoCAD accepted it just fine. Because of the problems, I uninstalled and reinstalled, however, that's not the problem. When I reinstalled it recognized that I had an activation key from before and because it was valid, it used it.
When I launch AutoCAD I'm prompted to activate it with a serial number or network license. I chose serial number. The first time it did this I stepped through all of the steps to get our activation code and tried to run it. The second time it just moved on because it already had the serial number. Both times, after putting in the information, the screen comes back trying to connect to the Internet and then fails and says it can't reach the Internet. The help menu says that a first time launch may connect to the Internet.
Since it can't, AutoCAD says the license server isn't running, and it aborts. It's a lab, no Internet, I have all the activation keys. How do I get this software to work on a system that's not connected to the Internet? Although you may have gotten installed on a server, Autodesk products are not designed to run on a server since you would be breaking the license agreement that you accepted. But I will tag and let him weigh in on the subject matter. If this application was recently purchased it would be a single user term based licensing and fhe first time its launched it needs internet access to authorize it.
When the application is launched again and you have a live internet connection, it just resets the counter back to 30 days. If there is no active internet, it starts the 30 day counter until you have a live internet concoction. If on the 31st day there's no internet the application will not work until its authorized again. Update: Your subject line states AutoCAD 2017 but your description states AutoCAD LT 2017. If you are in restricted internet area, AutoCAD LT 2017 single user/term based license will not work because it needs internet connection every 30 days if it doesn't find it. If its actually AutoCAD 2017 then you could get a multi-user license and run the activation through a license manager and no internet connection is required. In case you are wondering.
AutoCAD LT 2017 does not come as a multi-user license unless you are purchasing hundreds and hundreds of copies. Thank you Natasha for your reply. This did not work, however. And to clarify, I am trying to install AutoCAD LT 2017.
I read on other posts about the folder you are referring to. The post said if the folder didn't exist, then create it. So I created the C: ProgramData Autodesk CLM LGS 'product key-version folder. It is still there, but it is empty. Also, the manual activation notes say to click the Activate button on the Free Trial screen once you start it. We don't have a free trial button. The options on the screen are 'Enter a serial number' or 'Use a Network License'.
We don't have a network license, we have a serial number. Click that and it tries to reach the Internet, which is where the problem is.
